Trimingham Pottery Studio

Client Brief

Our client had developed a growing passion for pottery but found herself limited by working in a small, uninsulated shed. She approached us looking for a major upgrade — a dedicated space that would allow her to fully explore her craft and accommodate the specialist equipment required.

To meet her needs, we designed and built a garden room with reinforced foundations and a polished concrete floor, capable of supporting the weight of a kiln and pottery equipment. The floor was not only engineered for strength but also for practicality — low-maintenance, easy to clean, and perfectly suited to the demands of a working pottery studio.

We clad the studio in a combination of western red cedar and metal sheeting to match their existing property.

Challenges & Solutions

  • The customer wanted a polished concrete floor, which was a first for us, but the finished result was amazing and suits the pottery studio perfectly, providing a strong, durable base for heavy equipment like the kiln while also being easy to wipe down and keep clean.

  • The front of the building was made taller than standard to match the steep pitch of the existing house, reaching around 2.8 metres high, which we were able to do without planning permission as the structure sits over 2 metres from the boundary.
