Bramerton Passivhaus Cladding

Client Brief
The client approached us as part of a large self-build passive house project, involving a barn-style structure that had already been constructed, with windows and doors installed. They required an experienced team to complete the external cladding to a high standard.
A key requirement was for a cladding solution that would blend subtly into the surrounding environment while being low maintenance, long-lasting, and not requiring ongoing treatment. We recommended charred larch, which met all of these criteria while providing a distinctive, high-quality finish.
Due to the nature of passive house construction, maintaining the building’s airtightness was essential. The client specified that no external barriers, including the vapour membrane and house wrap, could be compromised. We carried out the installation with great care and precision to ensure the integrity of the airtight envelope was fully preserved.

Challenges & Process
-
Scale and access
The size and height of the building, along with detailed work around openings, required precision throughout. Scaffolding enabled safe and consistent access. -
Hand-fixed cladding
All charred larch boards were pre-drilled and hand screwed, with fixings carefully aligned and finished for a clean, uniform look. -
Airtight and ventilated system
Battens were carefully installed to protect the vapour barrier while creating airflow behind the cladding, maintaining both airtightness and long term performance. -
High-quality finish
A time intensive process, but the attention to detail delivered a result the team and client were highly satisfied with.
